At Westmorland Primary School we aim to deliver a broad and balanced curriculum which is relevant for our children.
Children in Years 1 to 6 follow the National Curriculum Programmes of Study in both core and foundation subjects. In line with Government guidance, we lay particular emphasis on teaching a wide range of skills to prepare children for each transitional phase, including secondary education and their future role in society.
We follow the National Curriculum guidance which can be found:
Science, Art and Design, Design and Technology, Geography and History are taught in topics to make learning relevant and to help the children make links between subjects. An overview of these topics can be found below. We have created a one page profile for each subject. These identify the core themes, questions and skills and identify links with English and Maths.
As an inclusive school we tailor the curriculum offer 5 to the needs of our pupils. For some children, i.e. those with complex needs, a relevant Life Skills curriculum is in place and supports their access to the world around them.
If you have any questions regarding the curriculum we teach please contact the school directly.
