Reception

In Reception we have been learning about people who help us. We had a visit from the police who talked to us about all of the different types of jobs that they do. We learnt about police vehicles and got the opportunity to see inside a police car. The sirens were very loud! We also got to try on some police uniforms.

In Reception we have been learning about making healthy food choices and looking after our mind and bodies. We had a visit from Freddy Fit and he taught us what happens to our bodies when we exercise and how important it is to have a balanced diet to have energy. We showed confidence when learning new skills and loved taking part in all of the activities!

Reception enjoyed taking part in a workshop to celebrate Chinese New Year! We learnt about the festival and had the opportunity to learn some Chinese dance moves and dance with traditional props like parasols and fans. We loved taking part in the dragon and lion dance!

As part of our learning about our local area, Reception went on a local walk to the post box to post our letters to Santa.  We were very excited when they got to meet him to discuss what we had written.

As part of our work learning about different cultures and communities, Reception have been learning about the festival of Diwali. We took part in an Indian dancing workshop where we worked hard to follow the Bollywood dance moves. We enjoyed being able to show their new moves to our friends at the end!

Reception loved visiting Chester Zoo! We enjoyed seeing the Fruit Bats, the Asian Elephants, the Short-clawed Otters, the Bornean Orangutans, the Caribbean Flamingos and many other animals! Our favourite animal was the Humboldt penguins. They liked following our fingers and chasing us!

Classroom Kitchen came to visit Reception for our traditional tales topic. They taught us how to make ‘bredgehogs’ like the Little Red Hen! We made the dough, kneaded it and used our scissor skills to turn it into a hedgehog. We loved learning about bread rising and had lots of fun tasting our bread.
