Baton Relay

Baton Relay!

Friday 15th July 2016

As part of our Road to Rio celebrations, Westmorland took part in a Baton Relay.  Most schools in Stockport also took part.  St Bernadette’s Primary school passed the Baton onto us.  We celebrated their arrival and welcomed the baton by waving flags from countries taking part in the Olympic games and cheering on the pupils of St Bernadettes passed the baton on to our children.  We invited a local Samba band to come and play music for us to make the morning extra special.

Just after the baton was handed to us, the children let off 7 balloons (each one representing one of the 7 Olympic /Paralympic Values).

Eight children from years 2 to 5 took part in carrying the baton from Westmorland to Reddish Vale High School.  We walked through the Vale, each taking turns to hold the baton, until we reached Reddish Vale High School.  The journey through the Vale took us approximately 30 minutes.   We were greeted by pupils from Reddish Vale High School and our children handed over the baton for the next leg of its journey.
