How can Parents and Carers help?

Please help us to help your child:

By sending dinner money on time in a named envelope.

By attending parent’s evenings and meetings.

By sending reply slips and consent forms back to school as soon as possible.

By notifying school of a change of address and / or telephone number.

By encouraging your child to follow our school rules.

By notifying school of a change in family circumstances.

By working in partnership with the school to ensure your child’s happiness, success and confidence through making sure homework is completed.

Parents in School

Parents are always welcome at Westmorland.

  • It is well accepted that children make better progress when parents and teachers work together and decisions are shared.

  • Parents of children coming into the reception class are invited to a meeting to meet staff and look around the school.

  • Parents help in the classroom is always appreciated. If you can help you will be required to undertake a police check

  • Parents are invited to class assemblies, to view children’s work, to coffee mornings and other events. These give opportunities for class teachers and parents to build relationships together.

    Parents Evening & Consultations

You will be invited to one parents’ evenings per year. (It is important that you attend). If you cannot make the appointment time please ask for a more convenient time. We will attempt to accommodate your wishes.

Things to consider before the Consultation Evening.

  1. It is a good idea to think about the questions you would like to ask the teacher beforehand and perhaps write them down.
  2. Discuss with your child whether there is anything she/he would like you to talk about with the teacher.
  3. Please talk to the teacher about your child’s interests, hobbies and feelings, knowing these things could be useful to your child’s teacher when planning a teaching approach.

You will receive a written report each year. If you would like more than one copy please let us know.

When can I look at my child’s work?

You can view your children’s workbooks following class assemblies. Please try to attend. If you are unable to attend and would like to see their work please ask the class teacher if you can have a look.
