Homework Letter June 2020

28th May 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thought I’d write first of all to say a massive thanks, I’ve seen some of the work your children have been completing at home with your children and it’s amazing!

Many of you are happily chipping away at helping your children learn their times tables off by heart and helping them to learn how to spell their year groups spellings. If every child came back knowing all this the teachers would be delighted. Please carry on with this if nothing else.

Some of you have gone much further and have been undertaking self-directed projects on dinosaurs, volcanoes, learning the piano and even computer coding. It’s great that you’re sharing your own interests and skills with your children and encouraging them.

As a support and in the new term as the vast majority of families have chosen to still be at home, we will be developing new ways of supporting home schooling. So that my staff team can set some work and that your children can submit it to us, hopefully electronically (or in paper form,) then receive some feedback/marking and get further pointers for future learning. I also want to use the school website to help celebrate some of the great things that your children have been learning at home with everyone.

Many of you are telling me that your children are enjoying the online classrooms from The National Academy, it really is like being in class but at home, it’s keeping many of our children busy learning the curriculum at “home school” for many hours each day. Other families tell me your children want paper based tasks so at the start of the new term the team will issue new home learning packs for the children.

Rest assured we’re listening to what you think will help you teach your child learn at home until we can all return to school safely and we’re making every effort to come up with a robust plan to keep the routine and feedback going.

I’ll write with further details in the new term, above all getting this right will help keep everyone safe and keep the kids from under your feet.

If you haven’t checked out the national academy ... google it ... it’s really good stuff!

In the mean-time please start sending us examples of the work you have been completing at home so that we can begin celebrating it to one of the e-mails below. We can’t wait to see it.

Kind regards and thank you all for giving so much MORE than you have ever done!!
