24th November 2020
Dear Parents / Carers,
I write following the announcement from senior officials at the Town Hall yesterday, informing you that ALL schools in Stockport will physically close on Friday 18th December this year, with teachers being required to provide remote learning for your children on the following Monday and Tuesday.
We are told that this will allow more families to spend the Christmas period together without the prospect of having to self-isolate.
Several of you have been in contact with me since the letter was issued, many supportive of the move and recognise the need for everyone to get much needed family time over Christmas, some in dismay about the lost learning that has already occurred during the lockdown, others concerned about childcare arrangements for those days.
Sadly, the decision to close and only offer remote learning on the 21st and 22nd December is out of my hands and as such I cannot reverse or overturn what the Local Authority tell ALL schools to do.
This morning I have, however, made contact with Mrs Quinn from the private after school club provider that runs on the site. Mrs Quinn would be willing to set up a bubble for families who are struggling with childcare arrangements on those days that the school is now closed.
Whilst this provision is NOT free I understand that those on Universal Credit, Tax Credit and other income related benefits may be entitled to some funding to support the place. This arrangement could help families without any childcare arrangement at minimal costs. I understand that these places would need to be pre-booked with Mrs Quinn and her team.
Should you require to book a place or to find out further information about childcare arrangements offered by Mrs Quinn and her team during the Christmas holiday period then please call her on 07534 890 771. Please make sure you do this at the earliest opportunity as I am sure that these places will fill rapidly.
