Pupil Premium Statement 2018-19
What is the Pupil Premium?
Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011 and is allocated to schools to work with pupils who have been registered for free school meals at any point in the last six years. It also allocates funds to those children that are looked after by the Local Authority and children of service personnel.
In making provision for pupil premium children, we recognise that not all pupils who receive free school meals will be socially disadvantaged. We also recognise that not all pupils who are socially disadvantaged are registered for, or qualify for free school meals.
If your child may be eligible for Free School Meals, you should apply, even if you do not intend to take the meals as this will enable the school to obtain £1300 of funding to benefit your child.
We reserve the right to allocate the pupil premium funding to support any pupil the school has legitimately identified as needing support.

The Governors and senior leaders utilise the pupil premium spend and where possible try to link this to the School Development Plan and also the recognised needs of the school community at the time.
How Westmorland is spending Pupil Premium Allocation? April 2018 – March 2019
· To improve the Speech and Language of pupils through the employment of a Speech and Language Therapist/Regional Makaton trainer (0.6) to employ a SALT TA to deliver speech and language programmes.
· To improve access to Occupational Therapy through the employment of an Occupational Therapist (½ a day every fortnight)
· To support children, families and their pastoral issues, attendance and punctuality through the employment of a Safeguarding team.
· To subsidise / pay for school day trips organised to enhance the children’s learning.
· To provide extra support to those children who just need a boost in order to reach their full potential by employing specialist literacy and maths high school specialists to run booster sessions for years 5 and 6.
· To support the cost of employing BSA TA to support pupils to overcome barriers to learning resulting from their behaviour / social issues / deprivation
· To support children’s learning by providing extra staff to work with disadvantaged groups.
· To pay for sports provision at lunchtime and after school as a behaviour/attendance improvement strategy
· To subsidise for an EYFS leader to raise standards in the Early Years Foundation Stage
· To subsidise the role of teacher to improve the motivation of boys across the school.
